Week 1 Round-Up

My Post

We made it through the first week! Yeehaw! After 4 full days, we have decided that:

1.) There is WAY too much screen time for elementary kids with Connections Academy. We knew that last year, but we dealt with it since it was only supposed to be temporary. Now that we are starting it again, I’m 100% sure we will switch the younger kids to something else after we move.

2.) Everybody is getting an exercise ball to sit on while on those screens so much. FYI, they are only $5 at FiveBelow.com!

3.) Elementary school textbook “literature” is not that great, and my kids are having a hard time getting in to it.  The other day, my 2nd grader read a poem about two kids coloring. One kid’s crayon broke, so the other one shared his. One of the comprehension questions was, “How do these friends depend on each other?” My kid…ever the pragmatic…was all, “They aren’t DEPENDING on each other – its not like one of them was dying or something! It’s just a crayon!”

4.) My pre-schooler loves doing his “school” so much that he has declared that he is never going to get married or move out. He is going to just live with me forever. He did promise to share his toys with me whenever I want, though.

5.) I am completely, positively sure we are doing the right thing for our kids at this point in time. There was so much unknown and general weirdness at this point last year, just trying to figure out what we were doing and how to navigate the whole homeschooling situation. Now we know what we are doing, so we can relax and just do it. I honestly didn’t think I would grow to LOVE this so much. It is amazing to see my kids learn in real time and be able to customize their learning to what each of them needs. It sure doesn’t hurt that I have pretty cool kids that all actually enjoy being together (mostly), either.

6.) Friday afternoons might become permanent nap times for Mom. Hopefully that one is self-explanatory.
